This is a liquid that is stabalised at pH 4.0. It allows you to calibrate pH meters to a known reference point. Remember, a reading is only as accurate as the calibration. Meters should be calibrated on a weekly basis or when you get a reading that doesn't look right.

Store buffers in a cool location. If the top is kept closed the solution should have a shelf life of 12 months,

To use decant a small quantity into a clean specimen jar and use the buffer in the jar for your meter calibration. The buffer in the specimen jar can be reused sveral times. Do not put the buffer liquid back into the main buffer container to avoid contamination.

pH meters should be calibrated to at least two points. For Hydroponics the nutrient solutions should be less than pH7 so the meter is calibrated between pH 7 and pH 4 to make sure that readings between pH 7 and pH 4 are accurate.

It is like a speedometer - if the guage is out of calibration you could run the risk of collecting a hefty speeding fine :-)
